Cage Fights in Guildford

GUILDFORD’S Mandolay Hotel has applied for a licence to host combat sports including cage fighting.
Managers of the London Road venue also want to stage boxing, wrestling, karate, kickboxing and other martial arts.
If approved by Guildford Borough Council, the Mandolay would become the only place in the borough with permission to stage such fighting events.
A spokesman for the hotel said joint manager Stephen Hay decided to submit the application after attending a charity boxing night in Woking.
“We were talking to the organisers and we were really impressed and that’s the sort of thing we are looking to put on every so often,” he said.
“It’s obviously still at the application stage so we don’t want to make any presumptions.”
The HG Wells conference centre in Woking has a licence that allows it to host such events.
